Zhytomyr - A good grain harvest is a guarantee of good foreign exchange reserves and a stable hryvnia exchange rate, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“A good harvest means that [foreign] currency will come to our
country. This means that we will have stable foreign exchange reserves,
which, in turn, means that the exchange rate of our national currency
will be stable,” he said in an interview with the Zhytomyr Regional
Television and Radio Company in Zhytomyr on Thursday.

Azarov noted that Ukraine exported a record amount of grain in the 2011/2012 marketing year – about 23 million tonnes.

“Many people have predicted default and the fall of the hryvnia. Let
them calm down. We will have a good harvest, good foreign exchange
reserves and a stable hryvnia,” he said.
