Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has invited Shell to join the production of natural gas from conventional and depleted fields in Ukraine.

“I want to invite Shell to join gas production not only from unconventional fields, including shale gas fields, but also to production from conventional fields,” the government’s press service quoted him as saying at a meeting with a Shell delegation in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that Ukraine was currently installing special gas pumping stations, which increase the pressure at the existing and depleted fields, and, in particular, this helps increase hydrocarbon production by 25-30%, and, consequently, Ukraine wants to attract Shell’s experience.

Upstream International Director at Royal Dutch Shell Andy Brown, in turn, noted that the company wants to cooperate with Ukraine in the conventional production of hydrocarbons.

“We could cooperate and share knowledge, jointly developing depleted and conventional deposits, and we could transfer our technology to you,” he said.

He said that Shell was currently using special technology in the Netherlands to increase gas production from depleted fields, and, in particular, this experience can be shared with Ukraine.
