Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said he hopes that in the next ten years, land reform will lead to the modernization of the country's agricultural sector.

"We expect that in the next ten years, this [land] reform will lead to the modernization of our agricultural sector," he said, while delivering a lecture at the Kyiv National Economic University on Tuesday.

Azarov said that if the Verkhovna Rada passes a law on the land market this year, then the document would come into force on Jan 1, 2012.

He noted that the land reform itself would take at least ten years and that during its implementation it would be possible to modernize the entire agricultural sector.
