Sao Paulo – Brazil is to build a plant for the production of insulin using Ukrainian technologies, Ambassador of Ukraine to Brazil Ihor Hrushko has told Ukrainian reporters.

"Under the program, the technologies will be completely handed over in 2014, and Brazilians will be able to start production of insulin using Ukrainian technologies," the ambassador said in Sao Paulo on Monday, during a state visit by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Brazil.

According to the ambassador, this strategic cooperation project between Ukrainian and Brazilian companies is being implemented. Ukraine already delivers insulin produced according to its technologies to Brazil.

Hrushko said that over the term of effect of the agreement, the price of insulin in Brazil dropped by three to five times, saving Brazil $100 million.

According to the ambassador, Brazil is interested in Ukrainian insulin, as the government provides citizens that suffer from diabetes with insulin free of charge.
