You're reading: Business Recorder: Ukraine raises 2012-13 wheat export to five million tonnes

Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry has raised the export limit for wheat for the 2012/13 season, it said on Thursday, adding 1 million tonnes to the previous 4 million tonnes cap, a move welcomed by traders.

 “The day before yesterday, we met with traders and agreed to raise (wheat export volume) to 5.0 million tonnes,” Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said, according to a spokeswoman. 

With a much lower harvest than last year, the ministry and traders agreed in September that the former Soviet republic would export no more than 19.4 million tonnes of grain in the 2012/13 season, which runs from July to June.
