Kyiv – Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mykhailo Okhendovsky and OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine Madina Jarbussynova have discussed the prospects for further cooperation.

At a meeting on Wednesday, Jarbussynova congratulated Okhendovsky on his election as the head of the Central Election Commission, the press service of the CEC reported.

According to the coordinator, the CEC has been a reliable and stable partner in the implementation of OSCE projects in Ukraine, and seven years of joint work have produced a positive response in Vienna.

In turn, Okhendovsky noted that the conclusions of the OSCE ODIHR election observation mission about the organization and conduct of elections in Ukraine hold most weight for the Ukrainian election officials and will become a kind of a “road map” to further improve the electoral legislation of Ukraine, with the aim of ensuring the realization and protection of the constitutional electoral rights of its citizens.

The main topic of the meeting was cooperation under the project “Developing Election Training Capacity and Enhancing Voter Awareness,” which is being implemented by the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine with the support of the Canadian International Development Agency and the Foreign Ministry of Norway from April 2012 until December 2013.

Jarbussynova expressed the hope that Ukraine will step up its democratic development through further cooperation on improving the organization of the electoral process and its electoral legislation, as well as raising the awareness of Ukrainian voters.
