You're reading: Draft national budget for 2011 to foresee $500 million for hosting 2022 Winter Olympics

The draft national budget for 2011 will envisage the allocation of $500 million for preparations for hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics in Ukraine, Ukrainian Family, Youth and Sports Minister Ravil Safiullin has announced.

"There is a decision, under which the national budget for 2011 will foresee the allocation of $500 million for preparations for holding the 2022 Winter Olympics in the Carpathians," he said at a meeting of the ministry’s board in Kyiv on October 5, according to the ministry’s press service.

The minister added that this amount is to be doubled in 2012, and these assets would be spent on the construction of the sports and other infrastructure.

"By 2015, we should complete 50% of the necessary sports objects and infrastructure that would be shown to the International Olympic Committee in the year the country announces its bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics," Safiullin said.

The minister noted that in 2014 Ukraine intends to bid for the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
