The FarmUkraina Pharmaceutical Association has stated that Kyiv regional customs have issued an order that significantly prolongs the process of the customs clearance of medicines.

"Under order No. 196 [of February 24, 2011], medicines cannot be registered at customs without the receipt of a new decision on the acquisition of a code at the control department of customs value and goods classification. The innovation will lead to significant delays, of up to 40 days, in the customs clearance of medicines," reads a report by FarmUkraina, the text of which has been sent to Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the pharmaceutical association, the order will cause additional spending by pharmaceutical companies linked to the increase in the term of storage of medical products at temporary warehouses, the drawing up of a complete set of documents and the extraction of medicine samples. According to the estimates by FarmUkraina, the document could cause a rise in prices for medical products in Ukraine.

In addition the association said that this order by the customs violates current Ukrainian legislation, and contradicts European practice in cooperation between the state, business and consumer.
