Grain stocks at Ukrainian agribusinesses (except for small farms) and grain storage and processing companies totaled 19.4 million tonnes as of September 1, 2012, which was 11% down compared to stocks on the same date in 2011, the State Statistics Service has said.

According to the source, wheat stocks were 13 million tonnes, barley 3.5 million tonnes, maize 1.3 million tonnes, and rye 500,000 tonnes.

Grain stocks at agribusinesses alone amounted to 11.4 million tonnes as of September 1, 2012, which was 17% down year-over-year. There were 7 million tonnes of wheat, 2.3 million tonnes of barley, 800,000 tonnes of corn, and 300,000 tonnes of rye.

The statistics service said that the stocks of sunflower seeds as of September 1, 2012 were 800,000 tonnes, which was 2.2 times up year-over-year. Stocks at agricultural enterprises alone were estimated at 400,000 tonnes (2 times up year-over-year).

Domestic grain consumption is estimated at 28.7 million tonnes per year.
