Ukraine hopes to settle the issue of the abolition of vehicle recycling tax on the import of cars introduced by the Russian Federation at the summit of the CIS prime ministers in Yalta on September 28, 2012.

“We hope that at the summit of heads of governments, which is
traditionally held in Crimea, we can make a joint statement, and by this
time – September 28 we will already have the agreed positions on the
mutual access to engineering products in terms of coordinating the
recycling fee,” Ukrainian Trade and Economic Development Minister Petro
Poroshenko said at a meeting with the head of the Eurasian Economic
Commission Board Chairman Viktor Khristenko in Kyiv on Monday, Sept. 10.

At the same time, he did not rule out that the first deliveries under the agreements will be made before the middle of December.

“I hope that the agreement will be reached in Yalta. I am optimistic
that them (the product supplies) will be made by mid-December. Should
there be political will of all the parties it will be quite possible to
solve the problems of removal or relaxation of radical protective
measures in respect to products manufactured by both countries,” the
minister told reporters after the meeting.

As reported, the law on the introduction of a 30% fee on cars took
effect in Russia on September 1, 2012. According to the law, the fee
will be paid for every vehicle imported to Russia with the aim of
protecting the environment.
