You're reading: Russian gas sector plans to be revised when energy strategy updated

The general scheme for the development of Russia's gas industry will be revised when the country's Energy Strategy has been updated.

A gas industry source told Interfax that the presidential fuel and
energy commission discussed the issue of revising the scheme at a
meeting on Tuesday.

The Energy Strategy is updated every five years. It currently covers
the period to 2030, but work has begun to extend it until 2035.

The source also said the issue of domestic gas prices, which
independent producers want to discuss, had been referred to the
presidential commission, but it is not yet known when this will be
reviewed.

Gazprom has asked for permission to sell gas below regulated prices,
but independent producers have slammed this, as it means Gazprom will be
competing with them for the more lucrative consumers. A draft
government decree on the matter was submitted at the end of Dec.,
but it has not yet been signed.
