Talks between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an impasse.

Deputy Prime Minister and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko said this on Wednesday, March 14.

"I know nothing about U.S. lobbyists, but it’s certain that we’ve reached an impasse," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, when asked whether is it true that the talks with the IMF reached an impasse and that the government had appealed to U.S. lobbyists.

Tigipko said that the IMF is insisting on a rise in gas tariffs for households, which he said the Ukrainian government would not do.

"They have one position – to raise tariffs. There are no other problems. [But] we will not raise the tariffs," he said.
