You're reading: Ukraine boosts electricity exports 50% in 2012

Ukraine increased electricity exports 52.8% year-on-year in January-March 2012 to 1.827 billion kilowatt-hours, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Electricity exports from the Burshtyn Energy Island to Hungary, Slovakia and Romania surged 66.4% to 999.6 million kWh.

Exports to Central European countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland) skyrocketed more than 90% to 1.1599 billion kWh as exports to Poland resumed in March (160.3 million kWh).

Belarus imported 501.5 million kWh of Ukrainian electricity in the three months, down 15.2% due to the severe cold weather at the start of February – exports to Belarus did not resume in full until the middle of that month.

Moldova imported 165.9 million kWh of Ukrainian electricity in the three months, compared to 3.8 million kWh in the same period of 2010.

Ukraine did not export electricity to Russia.

Ukraine’s electricity exports rose 62.5% year-on-year in March to 796.1 million kWh.
