Ukraine increased electricity exports 52.6% or by 864.1 million kilowatt-hours year-on-year in January-April 2012, to 2.508 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Electricity exports from the Burshtyn Energy Island to Hungary, Slovakia and Romania surged by 51.7% or by 389.7 million kWh, to 1.144 billion kWh.

Exports to Poland over the period came to 275.9 million kWh, while in the corresponding period last year the country did not export electricity to Poland.

Exports to Central European countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland) skyrocketed by 1.9 times or 665.6 million kWh, to 1.42 billion kWh as exports to Poland resumed in March.

Belarus imported 851 million kWh of Ukrainian electricity in the four months, up 5.2% or 42.3 million kWh year-over-year.

Moldova imported 237.2 million kWh of Ukrainian electricity in the four months, compared to 79.8 million kWh in the same period of 2011.

Ukraine did not export electricity to Russia.

Ukraine’s electricity exports rose 52% year-on-year in April, to 680.4 million kWh.

Electricity exports from the Burshtyn Energy Island to Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland in April grew by 69.5% on April 2011, to 259.6 million kWh, to Belarus – by 61%, to 349.5 million kWh and to Moldova it fell by 6.3%, to 71.3 million kWh.
