You're reading: Ukraine ups poultry imports by 2.5 times, decreases pork imports by 6.6 times

Ukraine in January-June 2013 exported 66,685 tons of poultry meat and poultry meat by-products, which is 2.54 times up year-over-year, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

In monetary terms, the exports were worth $114.015 million, which was 2.6 times up on January-June 2012.

Poultry meat and poultry meat by-product imports to Ukraine in January-June 2013 totalled 31,360 tons, which is 39 percent down year-over-year. In monetary terms, these goods imports from foreign markets were worth $39.3 million, which is 45 percent down year-over-year.

In January-June 2013, pork exports from Ukraine decreased by 6.6 times compared to January-June 2012, to 1,616 tons. The country over the period exported pork worth $7.02 million, compared to $50.39 million in January-June 2012.

Ukraine in January-March 2013 imported 71,000 tons of pork, which is 15 percent down year-over-year. The country over the period imported pork worth $162.28 million, which is 18.6 percent down year-over-year.

As reported, Ukraine from March 20, 2013 imposed a temporary ban on pork imports from Brazil due to the systematic non-compliance with safety indicators of pork produced by various Brazilian companies under the requirements of the Ukrainian legislation. The Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine said that in July, the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine allowed certain Brazilian companies to supply pork to Ukraine. The ministry is convinced that Ukraine was able to meet its own demand for this kind of meat.

As reported, referring to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, Ukraine in 2012 imported 114,600 tons of poultry meat and poultry meat by-product, which is 87.6 percent up on 2011. Poultry and by-products exports from Ukraine last year totalled 80,650 tons, which is 62 percent up on 2012.

In 2012, pork imports to Ukraine increased by 2.4 times compared to 2011, to 207,700 tonnes. Pork exports last year grew by 61.5 percent and amounted to 20,200 tons.
