You're reading: Ukraine’s foreign debt 0.9% down to $14.9 billion in February; domestic debt 4.4% up to Hr 96.2 billion

Ukraine's direct foreign debt decreased by 0.9% or USD 137.3 million in February to amount to USD 14,852.9 million as of February 28.

The Finance Ministry announced this in a statement.

Ukraine’s direct domestic debt grew by 4.4% or UAH 4,013.7 million to UAH 96,207.1 million (USD 12,040.9 million) in February.

The total size of Ukraine’s direct national debt in February rose by 42.9% or UAH 91,040.5 million to UAH 303,173.7 million (USD 37,944.1 million), from UAH 212,133.2 million (USD 26,512.7 million) as of January 31.

The total size of the guaranteed national debt was UAH 88,291.8 million (USD 11,050.3 million) as of February 28, compared with UAH 89,405.5 million (USD 11,174.0 million) as of January 31.

This includes the guaranteed foreign debt of UAH 74,239.9 million (USD 9,291.6 million) as of February 28, compared with UAH 75,346.7 million (USD 9,416.9 million) as of January 31, and the guaranteed domestic debt of UAH 14,051.9 million (USD 1,758.7 million) as of February 28, compared with UAH 14,058.8 million (USD 1,757.1 million) as of January 31.

The direct and guaranteed national debt amounted to UAH 391,465.5 million (USD 48,994.4 million) as of February 28, compared with UAH 301,538.7 million (USD 37,686.7 million) as of January 31.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine’s foreign debt fell by 0.7% to amount to USD 14,990.2 billion in January, and domestic debt rose by 1.2% or UAH 92,193.4 billion (USD 11,522.4 million).

The total size of Ukraine’s direct national debt in January rose by 0.2% to UAH 212,133.2 million (USD 26,512.7 million).

In 2009, the direct foreign debt rose by 35.1% from USD 11,171.5 million to USD 15,097.3 million (mainly via the attraction of International Monetary Fund tranches), the direct domestic debt – by 103.9% from UAH 44,666.5 million to UAH 91,070.1 million (mainly due to the issue of domestic government loan bonds, including for recapitalization of banks and Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company), the total direct debt of the state rose by 61.9% from UAH 130,686.9 million to UAH 211,622.4 million.

Government-backed debt in 2009 rose by 52.9% from UAH 58,720.7 million to UAH 89,806.0 million (due to the issue of bonds by the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company under state securities and currency rates changes).

The direct and government-backed debts rose by 59.1% from UAH 189,407.7 million to UAH 301,428.4 million.
