You're reading: Ukrainian airlines sees 8% rise in passenger transportation in 2012

Ukrainian airlines in 2012 carried 8.1 million passengers, which is 8% up on 2011, the press service of the Infrastructure Ministry has reported.

The press service said that growth in the passenger transportation
volume in 2012 was first linked to the development of international and
domestic flights.

In addition, Ukrainian airlines carried 122,600 tonnes of freight and mail in 2012, which is almost one third up on 2011.

In 2012, 43 Ukrainian airlines performed commercial passenger, freight and mail flights.

Some 36 Ukrainian airlines performed commercial passenger flights in
2012, and the share of five largest passenger carriers (AeroSvit,
Ukraine International Airlines, Wizz Air Ukraine, UTair Ukraine and
Windrose) came to 93%.

In 2012, Ukrainian airlines started operating eight new international
lines to Bagdad, Karagandy, Murmansk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and
Yekaterinburg from Boryspil and to St.Petersburg and Yekaterinburg from
Simferopol.

In 2012, 11 Ukrainian airlines performed regular passenger flights to
46 countries and 55 foreign airlines flied to Ukraine from 32
countries.

Some 10 Ukrainian airlines performed regular passenger flights
between 13 Ukrainian cities: transportation grew by 9.6%, to 1.2 million
passengers.

A total of 23 Ukrainian airlines operated on the freight and mail
transportation market. Antonov Company, AeroSvit, Ukraine International
Airlines, ZetAvia, Maximus Airlines, Ukrainian Helicopters and Urga
airlines carried out a major part of freight and mail transportation.

Some 26 Ukrainian airports and airfields serviced commercial flights
of Ukrainian and foreign airlines. In 2012, their passenger flow grew by
13.2% compared to 2011, to 14.1 million and freight and mail flows fell
by 4.7%, to 45,000 tonnes.

The ministry also said that 98% of total passenger flow and 92% of
total freight and mail flow were serviced by eight key airports:
Boryspil, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv (Zhuliany), Lviv, Odesa,
Simferopol and Kharkiv.
