Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych says he intends to seek a reduction in the price of Russian natural gas for Ukraine and rules out the possibility of a merger of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russian OAO Gazprom.

According to the Ukrainian presidential press service, which quoted Yanukovych’s interview with Bloomberg, the Ukrainian president would like the price of Russian natural gas to be cut by almost 20%, to $240 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Yanukovych notes Ukraine is going to revise the gas price agreement.

"If Ukraine eventually decides to sell part of its energy assets, it will be done transparently and in a competitive environment. Such big corporations as energy companies will undergo registration for privatization in the near future," he said.
