You're reading: ZAZ cuts vehicle output by 38% in three months of 2012

Public joint-stock company Zaporizhia Auto Plant (ZAZ), Ukraine's largest automobile producer, in January-March 2012 produced 8,629 vehicles, or 38% fewer year-over-year, according to statistics figures from the Ukrautoprom association.

The association said that the fall in production was linked to a fall in passenger car output by 42% year-over-year, to 7,973.

Truck output almost doubled, to 238, while bus production came to 185. The plant did not produce buses in the first quarter of 2011.

In March 2012 compared to February 2012, vehicle output grew by 23%, to 2,697, including a 25% rise in passenger car output, to 2,450, an 8% rise in truck output, to 156, and a 4% increase in bus production, to 70.

Production fell by 48% in the period year-over-year, including a 52% fall in passenger car output.

As reported, in 2012, ZAZ expects that passenger car production will grow by no more than 10%, while bus production will double.

In 2011, the plant produced 60,862 vehicles, which was 33.9% up year-over-year.

ZAZ currently produces ZAZ cars – the Lanos, Forza and Vida, Chevrolet, Kia, TATA and JAC trucks and small-class I-Van buses, as well as spare parts for small cars.

In January-March 2012, vehicle output in Ukraine fell by 16%, to 19,164, including an 18.6% fall in passenger car output, to 17,594, a 51.4% rise in truck and commercial vehicle output, to 998, and a 5.9% rise in bus output, to 572.
