You're reading: ZAZ Forza is latest ‘Ukraine-made’ car to hit the streets

A factory in Zaporizhya on Feb. 17 began producing a new “Ukrainian made” car – the ZAZ Forza.

Based on the design of a car produced by Chinese firm Chery Automobile, the Forza is a 1.5-liter model costing around Hr 80,000 ($10,000).

It is expected to compete with Ukraine’s best-selling car: the domestically produced ZAZ Lanos which is based on a design by South Korean car manufacturer Daewoo.

I think it’ll be more interesting than the Lanos. The fitting and the design of the Lanos looked aged a long time ago. ”

– One user on a forum dedicated to the car.

The Forza is designed by Italian company Torino Design, and is assembled in Zaporizhya at ZAZ, one of Ukraine’s largest automobile manufacturers.

The car’s wiring, exhaust system, seats, battery and tires are produced in Ukraine.
Consumers have reacted equivocally to the new car.

“I think it’ll be more interesting than the Lanos. The fitting and the design of the Lanos looked aged a long time ago,” said one user on a forum dedicated to the car.

Others are less than impressed, calling it a Chinese prototype of the popular Ukrainian-made Zaporozhets, a Soviet-era series of cars produced by ZAZ.

Users complained of the lack of quality finish and the “plastic” body.
