Owners of transportation companies which provide passenger services in Kyiv region have announced an indefinite strike.
On Friday, August 10, carriers staged a peaceful demonstration on the Zhuliany Bridge in Kyiv, the regional campaign headquarters of the Batkivschyna United Opposition said. By their actions motorists want to draw the authorities’ attention to the problems that arose in the region because of nontransparent and selective policies pursued by Kyiv Regional State Administration.
“On August 7 Kyiv Regional State Administration held a competition for carriers, which left overboard more than 70% owners of the passenger services business, which is over 30 companies,” the statement said.
The share of business went to companies who have preferences in the regional administration, according to the strikers.
The competition mechanism has not changed in recent years, with preference given to the companies having the most competitive base. However, this time permits were given with no reason to organizations, most of which do not even have an auto fleet. Carriers believe that in future the rights to service an itinerary could be used for re-sale.
Strikers have already asked a court to prevent arbitrariness and overturn the previous decision by Kyiv Regional State Administration.
Besides, carriers have already been backed by representatives from the United Nations who announced their willingness to defend the interests of business people cheated by the authorities.
