Acting President of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov has appointed MP Volodymyr Bondarenko of the Batkivschyna faction as the head of Kyiv City State Administration.

Corresponding decree No. 275/2014 dated March 7 was published on the acting president’s Web site.

Bondarenko, born 1952, is a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 7th convocation, chairman of the subcommittee on electoral law and citizens’ associations of the parliamentary committee on state building and local government.

As reported, Turchynov dismissed Volodymyr Makeyenko from the post of the head of Kyiv City State Administration on March 7.

Makeyenko was appointed head of the Kyiv city administration on January 25, 2014. On February 20, after the mass clashes began in Kyiv, he announced his withdrawal from the Party of Regions and assumed responsibility for the situation in the Ukrainian capital.

On February 24, Kyiv City Council Secretary Halyna Hereha tendered her resignation.

The term of office of Kyiv City Council expired on June 2, 2013.
