St. Petersburg - The concert by Ukrainian band Okean Elzy in St. Petersburg has been canceled for reasons outside the concert administration's control, according to an announcement posted on the official site of the venue, the Ice Palace Sports and Concert Complex, on Thursday.

The concert scheduled for March 31 will not be taking place “for the reasons unrelated to the Ice Palace,” the website said. Efforts are underway to organize tickets’ return.

Interfax does not have any comment from the concert organizer.

Earlier the leader of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and St. Petersburg lawmaker Vitali Milonov suggested banning Okean Elzy’s Russian gigs because the band supported the Ukrainian Maidan.

“Not to allow the Russian tour of any Ukrainian bands whose members include individuals who have taken an explicitly anti-Russian stance,” Zhirinovsky said, in particular.
