The BYT-Batkivschyna faction is demanding to urgently veto a law permitting exports of Ukrainian gas passed by the parliament on June 17, 2011.

"BYT-Batkivschyna is demanding to urgently veto a law permitting exports of Ukrainian gas meant for the needs of households and stop economic genocide of own nation," reads a report of the Batkivschyna’s press service posted on the faction’s Web site on Monday.

"Ukraine has enough gas deposits to provide the public and partially the utility economy with cheap gas and protect them from high international prices. This approach allowed Yulia Tymoshenko’s government not to increase the price of gas for households even in the conditions of the international economic crisis," reads the report.

"The Yanukovych’s regime is conducting another policy – a policy of supporting rich people using funds of poor people."

"The law means that from today Ukrainian gas will be a source of super profits for rich people, as it is more profitable to sell it abroad at international prices of $400-500 per thousand cubic meters than to households at domestic prices. Expensive imported gas will be used to provide for the needs of households and the utility economy," the faction said.
