CEC appeals against court's ruling declaring illegal registration of Satsiuk as parliamentary candidate
The Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine will consider an appeal of the Central Election Commission (CEC) against a court ruling recognizing illegal the registration of former First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Volodymyr Satsiuk as a parliamentary candidate by August 23, CEC Deputy Chairman Andriy Mahera has said.
"We don't know yet [when the Higher Administrative Court will consider the appeal], but under the law the Higher Administrative Court is obliged to consider the appeal within two days since its receipt, which is not later than the end of Thursday this week," Mahera told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday, August 21.
Mahera said that he filed an appeal against the ruling of Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals on August 21 in the evening. CEC member Valeriy Sheludko and the commission have also appealed against the ruling. The appellants demand to cancel the decision of Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals that recognized illegal actions of the CEC during the registration of Satsiuk as a parliamentary candidate.
As reported, Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals overturned the Central Election Commission's decision to register former First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Volodymyr Satsiuk as a candidate for people's deputy.
The registration of Satsiuk was cancelled due to the fact that he hadn't lived in Ukraine for the past five years.
The court also decided that the actions of two CEC members representing the opposition, Mahera and Sheludko, were illegal and ruled that the president of Ukraine and the chairman of the CEC should be informed on this fact and relevant measures should be taken.
