Council of Europe experts visit prison service branch in Kharkiv region
An international community sanctions expert of the Council of Europe Martin Seddon (UK) and a coordinator of the Council of Europe project "Support for Prison Reform" in Ukraine Volodymyr Holovatenko visited the office of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv region on Aug. 28 and 29.
"We have already had numerous meetings with these guests in Kharkiv region. Over the time of this project, which envisages the creation of an effective methodology for assessing the risks and needs of offenders, we have established good and constructive relations," the press service of the State Penitentiary Service reported on Thursday.
This time the experts studied the state of the interaction of criminal and executive inspection with experts from social services and police inspectors.
On the first day of their trip, the experts visited the social services center for families, children and youth at Zhovtnevy district of Kharkiv. The next day they visited the municipal company Artem Park in Kominternivsky district of Kharkov, where the convicts perform community service.
As reported, the convicted former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, has been serving her prison term in Kachanivska penal in Kharkiv since the end of December 2011. She is currently undergoing medical treatment in a local clinic.
