Cox, Kwasniewski mission to be prolonged until end of elections in Ukraine, says source
Brussels – The report of the observation mission of former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and ex-president of the European Parliament Pat Cox is an intermediate report, as the mission will be prolonged until the end of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, a source in the European Parliament told Interfax-Ukraine.
"At the Conference of Presidents [which is taking place with the participation of the EP president and the heads of political groups], Cox and Kwasniewski will report on the course of the mission and its results as of today. There will be no written document," the source said in Brussels on Tuesday.
According to the source, the Conference of Presidents will approve the work of the mission and decide to prolong it. The final report on results of work of the mission will be presented in the European Parliament after the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
Kwasniewski and Cox were appointed the EP's observers in the Tymoshenko case on June 11, 2012. Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and EP President Martin Schulz agreed on this during a meeting.
Later on, the tasks of the mission were expanded to observing the cases against Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko, as well as monitoring of the preparations for the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
It was reported earlier that Kwasniewski and Cox would report on the results of their work as observers at court proceedings on cases against former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko on October 2 at the European Parliament.
The parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held on October 28, 2012.
