KHARKIV – The authorities have launched another campaign to discredit former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, her daughter and defense lawyer, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, has said.

“Fraud, and manipulation of information about my mother, are
continuing. Such people as Kuzmin, Portnov and Liovochkin, who are the
servants of [President Viktor] Yanukovych, rather than servants of the
law, are now trying to start a smear campaign against my mother…
Politicians in Europe and the United States have already moved to
actions. We know that sanctions are being discussed in the Senate and
the European Parliament against Yanukovych and his entourage. Fearing
this, they [the authorities], in the face of Kuzmin, are inventing a new
smear campaign and blaming my mother for an attack on a [prison] guard,
the murder [of Yevhen Scherban] and [faking illness],” she told
reporters on Thursday near Ukrzaliznytsia’s Central Clinical Hospital
No. 5 in Kharkiv, where the former prime minister is receiving
treatment.

She declined to answer what incident could serve as grounds for
opening a criminal case on Tymoshenko’s attack on a prison guard, but
suggested that this could be linked to an attempt to forcibly transport
Tymoshenko to Kharkiv’s hospital in April.

“But how can one believe that such a small woman in whom any sudden
movement causes pain, attack s guard three times her size? And instead
of investigating her beating, they are unable to prove her guilt in
other cases, they again just came up with more laughable things, ” said
Tymoshenko.

As reported, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin
said in an interview with the Segodnya newspaper that a criminal
investigation had been launched into the case of Tymoshenko’s causing
bodily injuries to an officer of Kyiv detention facility.

“There is a case on Yulia Tymoshenko causing bodily injuries to a
detention facility officer in their line of duty. There are other cases
as well. They are also being investigated. And I can assure you that we
won’t keep back a single case. Each of them will be completed within the
time stipulated by the law and forwarded to the courts,” he said.
