The family of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko is ready for his transportation to a penal colony for serving his sentences and knows that the trials have tempered him.

“The whole society, all normal people realize that this is a
political ruling… Lutsenko doesn’t change, he always remains a fighter,
the situation has tempered him,” the ex-minister’s wife, Iryna Lutsenko,
told journalists on Friday, Aug. 17.

According to her, the Ukrainian authorities should understand that they are taking a risk by convicting political leaders.

“Even after their arrest, new people will replace them,” she said.

“I think the authorities will never do away with the Lutsenko family,” she added.

The ex-minister’s wife also said that she does not know where her
husband would be sent to and stressed that his family is ready for it.

“We are ready. We’ve packed our bags. This is not a surprise for us,” she said.

She added that Lutsenko is most likely to be transported to the penal colony in Mena, Chernihiv region.
