Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that the proper conditions will be created for holding democratic parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

"It is recognized that previous elections in Ukraine were democratic and were conducted in accordance with international standards. I'm confident, and I assure you, that the government will create all of the necessary conditions for the next parliamentary elections in Ukraine to be free and democratic. The government and I, as president of Ukraine, will do all we can [to achieve] this," he said at the opening of the 64th World Newspaper Congress and the 19th World Editors Forum in Kyiv on Monday, Sept. 3.

Yanukovych said that the government was taking steps to improve the elections law.
