You're reading: Yanukovych: Opposition shows ideological and political emptiness

The opposition's actions have showed its emptiness, Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

Explaining the need for fundamental reforms to his party members at the 13th congress of the Regions Party in Kyiv on Mar. 17, Yanukovych noted that reforms should not been delayed.

The president said the previous government left the devastated economy, huge debts, as well as the threat to the holding of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine.

"The main political conditions for modernization are efficient power and stable situation in the country. Today we have both," he said.
