Alexander Khetaguri, who served as Georgia's Energy Minister since 2007 and is now the Energy and Natural Resources Minister, is to be appointed the country's Finance Minister, Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili said.

"In heading the energy authority, Alexander Khetaguri did much to ensure a reliable energy supply for the country. When we meet with the public in the regions, no one questions the energy supply anymore. This is why I have decided to propose his candidature for the highest post in the government - the post of Finance Minister," Merabishvili said while meeting with farmers in Ozurgeti (western Georgia) on Monday.

Georgia's new Energy Minister will be Vakhtang Balavadze, who currently heads the parliamentary committee on regional policy, self government and the high mountainous regions.

As for Dmitry Gvindadze, who has been the country's Finance Minister since June 2011, "a new high position is being prepared for him," Merabishvili said.
