MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, on his birthday and praised his contribution to the formation of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space.
"Everyone knows about your personal contribution to the consolidation of the Russian-Belarusian friendship, resolution of major issues relating to the union-building, and formation of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space. The results achieved in these areas enable us today to move successfully towards the Eurasian Economic Union," the Russian president said in a telegram posted on the Kremlin's website on Thursday.
Belarus and Russia will continue to increase their diverse cooperation and consistently implement integration projects, Putin wrote.
"Your efficient work as Belarusian President aimed at active socio-economic development of your country, earned you high authority and trust among your fellow citizens," the telegram said.
