BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — An opposition party in Azerbaijan says 10 participants of a peaceful pro-democracy rally in the capital have been sentenced to jail terms of between seven to 10 days for breaching the public order.

Azerbaijan
National Front representative Faig Amirov said Sunday that six of those
jailed belong to his party, while at least three others are activists
with the Musavat party.

Authorities have given no information about the sentences.

Several
dozen activists assembled Saturday afternoon to call for the
dissolution of parliament before their meeting was broken up by police.

The
oil-rich Caspian Sea nation’s opposition has been calling for the
suspension of parliament since footage was posted online last month
showing a ruling party lawmaker soliciting a bribe to secure somebody a
seat ahead of the 2005 election.
