Moscow - The Commonwealth of Independent States Economic Council considered at its meeting in St. Petersburg a draft agreement to set up a Mir 24 news television channel on the basis of the Mir television and radio company.

“The subject of consideration were, in particular, a number of draft
documents: the CIS cooperation strategy for building and developing an
information society and a plan of its implementation before 2015, an
Agreement on the Inter-State technical regulations, a Concept of the Mir
24 news television channel on the basis of the CIS television and radio
company Mir,” the CIS Executive Committee spokesperson told Interfax on
Thursday.

The attendees took stock of the Plan of the first stage (2009 – 2011)
of implementation of the CIS Economic Development Strategy to 2020,
discussed the work of the Inter-State Council for CIS fairs, exhibitions
and congresses, and the state of competition on the CIS retail food
services market.

The attendees also discussed gradual removal of restrictions on trade
among the Commonwealth states, the funding of a 2013 plan to implement
the key priorities in developing medical and social aid and improving
living standards for war veterans (who fought in local conflicts) and
their families in the CIS countries before 2015.

The next session of the CIS Economic Council is due in Ashgabat on September 14.
