You're reading: EU: Horse meat products were not exported to Russia

Moscow - Products made with the use of horse meat and passed for beef have never been exported to Russia, Ladislav Miko, deputy director general of the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection, said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday after talks with chief of the Russian phytosanitary and veterinary oversight service Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergei Dankvert.

“I assured Mr. Dankvert that checks have been conducted dispelling fears that such products may have been exported to Russia. They are circulating exclusively inside the European Union,” he said.

Miko also said that the products identified pose no threat to health. The fraud involved is the application of beef markings to horse meat, he said, adding that the horse meet was of standard quality, he said.
