TBILISI - The International Monetary Fund has decided to appoint Azim Sadykov as its permanent representative in Georgia, the IMF's Tbilisi office told Interfax.

Prior to this appointment, Sadykov worked at the IMF’s main office in Washington.

“The new head of the IMF representative office in Georgia will start work at the beginning of July,” the office said.

Sadykov will replace Edward Gardner, who had headed the IMF office in
Georgia since March 2009. According to preliminary information, Gardner
is going back to work at the fund’s central office.

It was earlier reported that the IMF’s board of executive directors
approved a new partnership program with Georgia in April 2012. According
to the new program, the country can tap 250 million SDR in loan
resources (around $387 million) in 2012-2013.

The IMF opened an 18-month reserve loan facility in September 2008 in
the framework of a stand-by program consisting of 477.1 million SDRs
($750 million). The fund expanded the facility by 270 SDR ($428 million)
and extended its term until June 14, 2011. Georgia drew 577.1 million
in SDR (around $893 million) in the framework of the program.
