Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed interaction between Russia and the alliance and a schedule of upcoming political events within the NATO-Russia Council framework on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“The parties reaffirmed their interest in further promoting political dialogue and practical cooperation within the NATO-Russia Council framework,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Lavrov emphasized Russia’s belief that it is important to unconditionally observe principles and norms of the NATO-Russia Founding Act and the Rome Declaration as the basis for security cooperation, it said.
