Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Irena Degutiene has praised the decision of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite to visit Ukraine, despite the cancellation of the summit of Central European countries to be held in Yalta.

"I think this is the right decision. Although I usually do not comment on the president’s decisions in this field, for which, according to the Constitution, the president is responsible, but I understand that we are obliged to maintain friendly relations with Ukraine, help it correct errors that occur on the country’s way to approach the EU, and we cannot see past the violations of human rights," she said in an interview with the Lithuanian radio station Ziniu radijas on Wednesday.

Earlier Kyiv announced it was intending to postpone the summit of Central European states, as most of the invited officials refused to come to the meeting as a sign of protest against the treatment of imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. However, the presidents of Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova decided to come to Ukraine.

The Lithuanian leader, according to the Seimas head, is intending during her visit to meet with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and imprisoned Yulia Tymoshenko.
