LUHANSK – The former 'official' of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Gennady Tsypkalov, who was detained in the LPR as part of an inquiry into a coup attempt, has committed suicide, the director of the so-called "LPR Prosecutor General's Office" department Sergei Rakhno told reporters on Saturday.
“The investigation has established a tentative circle of people who agreed during numerous meetings in 2014-2016 to fulfill a scenario to depose the republic’s leadership, among them the republic’s head, the senior officials of the Council of Ministers, the People’s Council and the republic’s security services, including their physical elimination, and subsequently appoint a certain circle of persons to these posts,” Rakhno said.
In his words, one of the LPR’s leading militants Kiselyov, was detained during the investigation. “He made a confession with regard to the mechanism and the circle of people involved in the coup attempt and described his role in staging the coup. The court remanded him into custody as a restraining measure,” he said adding that some other people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the coup.
“The LPR head’s advisor (Gennady) Tsypkalov was also detained during the investigation,” he said.
“Last night, detainee Tsypkalov, obviously having realized the depth of his criminal actions and having realized that the information given by him about the circle of persons involved in the plot to topple the legitimate authorities in the republic is, beyond any doubt, dangerous for his life, and attempts will be made to eliminate him by plotters still at large, committed suicide by hanging himself,” Rakhno said.
