ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A mother who squirted hot sauce into the mouth of her adopted Russian son for lying about getting in trouble in school is to be sentenced Monday for child abuse.

Thirty-six-year-old Jessica Beagley is scheduled to be sentenced in Anchorage District Court. She was convicted last week of misdemeanor child abuse in what prosecutors say was a ploy to get on the "Dr. Phil" TV show.

Beagley submitted a videotape of her punishing the boy for a show segment titled "Mommy Confessions." It shows her squirting hot sauce in the boy’s mouth and then putting him in a cold shower.

Beagley faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail, a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years of probation.
