You're reading: Poll: Over 98% of Kazakhstan citizens will vote in parliamentary elections

Almaty - A poll conducted by the Alternativa pollster indicates that voter activity is high in Kazakhstan ahead of the early parliamentary elections scheduled for January 15.

"Most of the respondents polled (98.6%) said they would vote in the upcoming elections and only 1.4% said they would not, the pollster said in a statement on Monday.

The political leanings of those questioned in the poll indicate that the governing Nur Otan party is in first place as it draws support from 78.2% of respondents, and the Ak Zhol party is in second place (14.3%).

The Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan is supported by 2.5% of potential voters and the opposition National Social-Democratic Party 2.3%.

The Adilet party enjoys the support of 0.5% of citizens, the Party of Patriots 0.5% and the Auyl party 0.3%, the statement says.

The poll was conducted between January 2 and 8 in 14 regions, and in Astana and Almaty. One thousand and two hundred citizens were polled.
