MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has hired a former fashion model as one of his three personal photographers.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitri Peskov said Wednesday that Yana Lapikova has started working as an intern to support Putin’s staff photographers.

Peskov told The Associated Press that "a model’s past is not a crime" and that Lapikova was picked out of a pool of other candidates.

Lapikova, a slender brunette with olive-oil skin, was a finalist of the 2008 Miss Moscow beauty pageant.

She posed in underwear for fashion magazines and posted a handful of photographs in an online portfolio.

During more than a decade in power, Putin has been snapped in an array of alpha male shots, from flying a fighter jet to posing shirtless on horseback.
