Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov has said that as soon as Vladimir Putin assumes the presidency of the Russian Federation, he will send an official invitation to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to the CIS summit on May 15 in Moscow.

"I can say for sure, although I’m running ahead of events, that one of the first documents signed by Putin will be an official invitation to Yanukovych to the informal CIS summit due in Moscow on May 15," Zurabov said on Monday at the Russian Culture Center in Kyiv, where the inauguration of Putin is being broadcast live.

As soon as Vladimir Putin takes the post of the president of the Russian Federation, the development of relations between Ukraine and Russian will continue, Zurabov has said.

"Ukraine was and remains the closest strategic partner of the Russian Federation. We think that the election of Putin and his inauguration will obviously provide an additional push to the development of our relations," Zurabov said.
