MOSCOW - The sides have given up the chance to settle the conflict in Syria through talks, State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Alexei Pushkov said.

“Recognition of the Syrian opposition as “legitimate” authorities by
the “Friends of Syria” gives up on any attempts to find a political
solution. The only option now is war,” Pushkov said on his Twitter page
on Thursday.

“Syrian militants have threatened to attack the embassies of Russia
and Ukraine in Damascus to “take care of” the Russians. The U.S. sends
special operations forces in such cases,” he said.

Delegates to the Friends of Syria meeting, which was held in
Marrakesh, Morocco, on Wednesday, officially recognized the National
Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the only
representative of the Syrian people.

The Friends of Syria group includes several Arab and Western countries.

Recognition of the national coalition as the sole representative of
the Syrian people was agreed upon fully today, Moroccan Foreign Minister
Saad-Eddine Al-Othmani said at a press conference after the meeting.
