You're reading: Russian watchdogs to monitor Customs Union grain regulation

The Russian government has asked the agriculture and consumer watchdogs Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor to make sure the Customs Union regulation on grain safety is followed.

A resolution signed July 2 2013 says that Rosselkhoznadzor will make sure technical regulations for grain acquired that is not for the consumer’s personal use are followed. It will also be responsible for making sure regulations in production, storage, transportation, sale and utilization of grain are followed.

Rospotrebnadzor will make sure the regulations are followed for grain that is sold for the consumer’s personal use.

The government said both departments and their territorial offices should exchange information to improve the efficiency of the task.

The Customs Union technical regulation on grain safety came into force on July 1 2013. It lays out the mandatory requirements for grain in the Customs Union territory and linked requirements regarding production, storage, transportation, sale and utilization of grain.
