You're reading: Two-thirds of Russians to celebrate Victory Day – poll

MOSCOW – This year, 63 percent of Russians are planning to celebrate Victory Day on May 9, the Levada Center told Interfax.

The index is slightly below the data from previous years, 65 percent in 2015, 70 percent in 2014 and 2013, the sociologists said.

The majority of the respondents who are planning to celebrate Victory Day are workers (68 percent), specialists (65 percent), men (65 percent), citizens with secondary-level education (68 percent), people with a low consumer status (75 percent), Muscovites (74 percent) and residents of cities with populations of 100,000-500,000 (72 percent).

Every fifth respondent (20 percent) is planning to participate in the ‘Immortal Regiment’ march on May 9, showed the poll which was conducted among 800 Russians on April 22-25.

Most of the respondents planning to participate in these events are executives and managers (32 percent), specialists (23 percent), men (25 percent), citizens aged over 55 (23 percent), people with higher education (25 percent), people with a high consumer status (27 percent) and Muscovites (27 percent).

Meanwhile, 59 percent of respondents are not going to participate in the events and 21 percent were undecided.

The ‘Immortal Regiment’ social event is being held on May 9, in Russia, and a number of countries of the former Soviet Union, and outside of it. The participants march in line and hold pictures of their relatives who fought in World War II.
