You're reading: Uzbekistan continues military cooperation with CIS countries

Despite Uzbekistan's suspended membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization it continues military cooperation with its partners in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“Uzbekistan continues partnership in the format of the CIS Defense Ministers Council. The national defense ministry on Thursday confirmed it will attend the Council’s 62nd meeting to be held in Kaliningrad on July 5 under Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov’s chairmanship,” the press secretary of the Defense Ministers Council’s Secretariat, Captain First Rank Mikhail Sevastyanov, told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

The Uzbek delegation will be led by Deputy Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Rustam Niyazov responsible for international cooperation, he said.

The Defense Ministers Council meeting will be attended by military representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, he said.

Uzbekistan announced on Thursday its decision to suspend its membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
