President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Anatoliy Konkov has decided to invite Andriy Shevchenko to take up the post of the manager of Ukraine's national football team.

Konkov said in a statement posted on the FFU’s Web site on Monday that after going through the “outstanding school of such famous clubs as Dynamo Kyiv, Milan and Chelsea, under the leadership of the legendary coaches Valeriy Lobanovsky, Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho,” Shevchenko had a unique opportunity to incorporate their talent, knowledge and experience.

The statement notes that Shevchenko earlier made his debut with the youth and national teams under the leadership of Konkov, and that today the FFU president is offering him a new debut.

Konkov also believes that Shevchenko’s youth is a positive factor, and he is confident that he will manage “to make significant football achievements as the manager of the country’s main team, and that he has enough experience and character for that.” He noted that the federation, in turn, guarantees any assistance to Shevchenko in his work with the national team.

As reported, the post of the head coach of the Ukrainian national football team became vacant after Oleh Blokhin agreed to take charge of FC Dynamo Kyiv.

The decision on the appointment should be taken by the executive committee of the federation.
