You're reading: HC Donbass ready for Nazarov’s appointment as coach of Ukraine’s national hockey team

The Donbass Hockey Club is ready for the appointment of the club's coach, Andrei Nazarov, as head coach of Ukraine's national hockey team, and the coach of the Donbass youth team, Alexander Godynyuk, as assistant coach of the national team.

“The Donbass Hockey Club is closely following the achievements of the
national team and is doing everything it can to improve the results and
perform the tasks it has been assigned. We assure you that we are
honored to make our contribution to the development of Ukrainian
hockey,” reads a response of the club’s vice president, Sergei Shakurov,
to President of the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine Anatoliy Brezvin.

The federation filed a respective request to Donbass on July 29.

Nazarov was appointed Donbass coach in April 2013. He previously
coached Severstal Cherepovets, Traktor Chelyabinsk and Vityaz Chekhov
and also worked in the Russian national team.

As a player Nazarov played about 600 games in the National Hockey
League. He played for Mechel, Dynamo Moscow, Metallurg Novokuznetsk and
Avangard Omsk. He spent most of his career abroad, playing for such NHL
clubs as the San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Calgary Flames,
Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes and the Minnesota Wild.
